August 2020 - Further Update:

Thank you to everyone who submitted to the Orakei Local Board Draft 3 Year Plan 2020.

The OLB had one of the highest submission rates of all of the Local Boards, showing a good level of engagement on their vision for the Orakei Community. We hope a good number of these were from the Kohimarama community and that concerns and community vision for Madills Farm will have been noted.

Our focus now needs to switch to the second consultation process that could affect the future of Madills Farm: the Orakei Local Parks Management Plan. (Scroll down to read more information on this process from our earlier update).

The deadline for submission to this process has been extended until Friday 4th September.

August 2020 Update:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

There are currently two important public consultation processes underway that have the potential to change the future of Madills Farm for ever.

The intended purpose of both is to support the Orakei Local Board (OLB) make important decisions about how our local parks are used, managed, developed and protected, both for today and for tomorrow.

With Madills Farm very much at a “tipping point” both processes are important to determining Madills Farm future role in our community.

Now more than ever we need to generate a collective community voice to talk about what we love about Madills Farm and the role it plays in our residential community. We need to challenge and question where the line is drawn on “acceptable intensity of use” by a single user group in a park that is designated as a “mixed use recreation” (i.e. for BOTH passive and active recreation) and is surrounded, as Madills Farm is – by people’s homes.

Friends of Madills Farm have made formal submission on behalf all members, but we actively encourage everyone to make their own submissions as well.

Please read the following information on these two processes.

1. The Orakei Local Boards Draft 3 Year Plan – Have your say survey: (Closes Thursday 13th August 20)

The first process seeks feedback on the Orakei Local Boards Draft 3 Year Plan, which outlines their aspirations, outcomes and objectives for our community, along with some of the key initiatives they will undertake to achieve these goals.

The Orakei Local Board want to know they have "got it right", and have heard the community's voice in preparing their plan.

2. Orakei Local Parks Management Plan - Love your local park - have your say

The second process is the Orakei Local Parks Management Plan, for which initial public feedback closes on Wednesday 26th August 2020.

This is a 6-8 month, three step process being run by Auckland Council under the Reserves Act, where they review, assess and catalog all of the facilities and issues across all of the local parks and reserves in the Orakei Local Board area.

It takes into consideration community views on the role of every park - what we love, and what we would like to see changed, and looks at this in the context of the other parks and reserves in the area. This is the public submission process that is now underway and covers the 125+ parks and reserves in the Orakei area.

The importance of this process to our concerns for Madill’s Farm, is the extent to which it will eventually inform the OLB decision about the facility upgrade on Madills Farm and the basis of the EASFC’s future lease (or rights to occupy) and permitted use arrangements.

You can find more detail on this process and our Friends of Madills Farm comments and concerns on our “Making a Submission Page”, where we also provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to "have your say". Go to: Making a Submission
